Converting miles to kilometres matching cards game - Year 6.

This resource has instructions and a measures poster which explains how to convert from miles to kilometres. There is a set of cards where the children have to match up the correct miles to kilometres - this is a good ACTIVE MATHS opportunity. I have added a table with the miles in which the children have to complete by working out the right number of kilometres. They can then go and find the right km card. I have also included an answer grid. I use this together with the Converting miles to km Powerpoint and the Miles to km intro. I have put these resources into a bundle.

These sheets support WRM - Varied Fluency for Year 5 - Spring 1 week 1-3. There are two worksheets on long multiplication using standard written method (with answers). When the children have completed the questions, then they can cut out the character (shark) and stick it in their book or on a card to collect different characters. I have made this with a sea theme as my topic this term is Blue Planet. If you would like to have the same sheets with a different theme, please contact me on Facebook or Twitter - The Tiki Teacher.

This grid has lots of uses.  Play the game with the question cards that I have included.  Use it as a place value grid and ask the children to state the value of the animal counter placed on the grid.  Make up to 5 digit numbers and ask the children to write them in digits and words.  Use it to illustrate what happens when we multiply by 10.  Varied Place Value work. There is an instruction page, the place value grid, a set of 4 tasks, 2 of which are open-ended, a set of animal counters and the answers for the first 2 questions.

This is an 8 page document which supports 'varied fluency' in Spring 1 week 1 for Year 5 based on the WRM small steps. There is a place value grid up to tens of thousands as well as printable manipulatives (counters for ones, tens, hundreds, thousands and tens of thousands). There is a question sheet (and an answer sheet!) with grids to fill in once the pupils have worked out the answers on their place value grids. There is also a blank answer grid sheet for the children or the teacher to set their own questions to further consolidate the work on understanding place value.

Converting miles to kilometres bundle

3 Resources
Instructions Use these resources to teach your class about converting from miles to kilometres. Print, cut out and laminate the conversion matching cards. You can attach these to lolly sticks if you like. Keep the miles cards and hide the kilometre cards around the class or yard. Give the children a little Porsche each with reminders about converting miles and kilometres, and they can stick it in their book. Then show the children the ‘Converting miles to kilometres’ Powerpoint and help them to convert the measures. After this, give the children the 5 quick check questions which they answer on the sheet and stick in their book. If they understand how to convert, then give them the miles to km table to stick in their book, or have on a clip board. Also, give the group the miles cards. They must look at the miles and convert it to km, then run and find the card which matches their answer. They continue with this until they have all of the cards matched up. Then they check with the teacher and mark their answers. I hope that your class have fun with this activity—my class really enjoy active Maths sessions. The Tiki Teacher 2017
